O.N.E. gives a concert on its precise birthday (March 3, 1974), celebrating with a potpourri of old and new music, including a new work for violin by Mark Kuss, and the posthumous performance of a Bill Ryden masterpiece.
Composer and music editor William Ryden passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Hamden. In a relationship that started in 1992, Orchestra New England has premiered ten wonderful pieces by Ryden. Bill was looking forward to the March 3 concert featuring the return of his Kaleidoscope with Patrick Smith as percussion soloist. O.N.E. now honors his memory with this performance.
Since 2008, Orchestra New England has performed four premieres of important works by Mark Kuss, professor of music at Southern Connecticut State University. For O.N.E.'s birthday concert Kuss has written a new piece for our concertmaster, Raphael Ryger to perform with the orchestra. Also included are pieces by Charles Ives, Joseph Haydn featuring pianist Gary Chapman, and the fun music of Bohuslav Martinu.
