Musical parties (soirees) were important to elite society in the 19th and early 20th centuries. One has only to think of Schubert and his circle enjoying such extraordinary music making! Chopin followed, with his early piano concertos presented with just soloist and strings. In 20th century Vienna, Arnold Schoenberg gathered the cognisenti to hear the newest music and to study some less heard masterworks. To support this phenomenon, Schoenberg presented a fundraiser that featured his arrangements of the ever-so-popular Johann Strauss, Jr.'s waltzes and polkas.
O.N.E.'s April 11 concert will recreate a 19th century musical soiree featuring Chopin's 2nd Piano Concerto with soloist Gary Chapman, and the wildly fun music of the Waltz King!
Our youngest audience members love O.N.E.'s Silent Movie concert event, with Maestro Sinclair directing a delightful live accompaniment to classic films of the 1920s. This season, the shows take place in the afternoon for the whole family to enjoy! Presented in partnership with the 2015 International Festival of Arts & Ideas.
